چکیده

We report on a simulation study of the performance of the North Tower (WTC-I) of the World Trade Center complex during the impact of American Airline Flight 11, on September 11, 2001. We discuss impact damage the structural core might have sustained and its possible behavior under structural and thermal loading. Our simulations indicate that the worst damage to the core structure was in stories 95 through 97 of the tower. We estimate that a core collapse mechanism could be initiated if the tower core column temperatures were elevated to about 700C. The Interplay of Motivation and Willingness to Communicate in Four Skills: The Iranian Perspective

The present study examined the relationship between willingness to communicate (WTC) and intrinsic/extrinsic motivation among Iranian intermediate learners of English. It also attempted to identify the motivational orientations which best predicted learners’ WTC. Moreover, it measured Iranian intermediate learners’ willingness to read (WTR), willingness to listen (WTL), and willingness to write...

U.S. EPA Response to the “Peer Review of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Final Report on the World Trade Center (WTC) Dust Screening Study” December 2006

EPA has completed a substantial study to re-evaluate use of the presence of slag wool fibers as a potential marker for World Trade Center (WTC)-derived dust contamination. Slag wool is an insulating material (made from blast furnace slag) that was used in the construction of the WTC. Large quantities of slag wool were released into lower Manhattan by the collapse of the WTC. Samples of dust col...

Induced Sputum Assessment in New York City Firefighters Exposed to World Trade Center Dust

New York City Firefighters (FDNY-FFs) were exposed to particulate matter and combustion/pyrolysis products during and after the World Trade Center (WTC) collapse. Ten months after the collapse, induced sputum (IS) samples were obtained from 39 highly exposed FDNY-FFs (caught in the dust cloud during the collapse on 11 September 2001) and compared to controls to determine whether a unique patter...

An Analysis Method on Post-earthquake Traversability of Road Network Considering Building Collapse

This study aims at quantifying the influence on the traversability of road network of road network caused by building collapse in earthquake. To this end, an analysis method on post-earthquake traversability of road network considering building collapse is proposed. First, the time-history analysis of seismic response based on the multi-degree of freedom (MDOF) model is performed for regional b...

Analytical Modeling of Axial Collapse of Circular Hybrid Tubes

In this paper, considering symmetric collapse mode for hybrid tubes, and using Tsai-Hill fracture criterion to take into account the off-axis strength of an orthotropic lamina, an analytical model is extended and an expression is derived for mean crushing load and fold lengths of circular hybrid tubes. In this model, the influences of the geometrical dimensions including diameter, thickness of ...
